4th Annual Business Administration Conference: Diversity, Equality and Inclusion

The conference titled "4th Annual Business Administration Conference: Diversity, Equality and Inclusion" organized by the Department of Business Administration in cooperation with Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and Arts and sponsored by Siemens Türkiye and DAAD took place on November 10, 2023 at the Turkish-German University Campus.

The opening session started with welcome speeches by TAU Rector Prof. Dr. Cemal Yıldız, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Prof. Dr. Ela Sibel Bayrak Meydanoğlu and Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and Arts Prof. Dr. Rıza Öztürk and ended with the presentation of Dr. Hüseyin Gelis, Chairman and CEO of Siemens Türkiye.

The first session started with a presentation titled "Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Siemens" by Aslı Kunur, Director of People and Organization at Siemens Türkiye, under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Müge Klein from the Department of Business Administration at Turkish-German University.

Following the speeches of Ms. Filiz Toprak Esin and Ms. Tuğba Doğru Barutçuoğlu, Leaders of TEİD Ethics and Reputation Society Diversity and Inclusion Working Group, on how TEİD inspires through diversity and inclusion, the session was completed with the presentation of Dr. Bahri Danış, CEO of NTT DATA Business Solutions Türkiye & MENA, who introduced the company and discussed "Diversity, Equality and Inclusion".

In the second session of the conference chaired by Prof. Dr. Dilek Zamantılı Nayır, Prof. Dr. Parissa Haghirian from Sophia University was connected online to give a presentation on diversity and inclusion in companies in Japan.

Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Vatansever from Namık Kemal University made the second presentation of the session with her study titled " Understanding Entrepreneurship Thru the Narratives: Ayşen Zamanpur and Her Two Autobiographies". In the continuation of the academic presentations that started with the second session, Prof. Dr. Margareta Teodorescu from Koblenz University of Applied Sciences, together with Prof. Dr. Ela Sibel Bayrak Meydanoğlu from Turkish-German University, presented "Redefining Financial Systems: Blockchain as a Catalyst for Financial Empowerment".

Prof. Dr. Vivian Carstensen and Dr. Nilgün Daglar-Sezer from Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and Arts made presentations on the neglected categories of diversity in the workplace, and the session was concluded with a presentation titled "Measuring Diversity at the Workplace" by Moritz M. Botts, Assistant Professor at the Turkish-German University, in collaboration with Shuyi Hao from ICN Paris Business School.

The final session, chaired by Prof. Vivian Carstensen from the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and Arts, featured work from different disciplines. Following the presentation of Prof. Dr. Stephan Schöning from SRH Heidelberg University on the role of diversity in the economic success of companies, Prof. Dr. Berna Aydoğan, Prof. Dr. Gülin Vardar and Research Assistant Elif Tokgöz from İzmir University of Economics shared their studies on the impact of financial inclusion on environmental sustainability.

Prof. Dr. Kirsten Beckmann from Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and Arts gave a presentation on gender diversity in boards of directors in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Christiane Nitschke, followed by Prof. Dr. Jan Schilling, also from Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and Arts, on the problems of organizational cynicism among employees.

At the closing of the session, Prof. Dr. Dilek Zamantılı Nayır and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Eroğul from Adelphi University connected online to present their work on "Turkish Women and the Military".

Prof. Dr. Dilek Zamantılı Nayır, Head of the Department of Business Administration at TAU Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, ended the conference by thanking everyone who contributed.
